HOGAN GETS HIS MONEY Posted: 010917
The NY Post reports that a Manhattan federal judge has approved a bankruptcy plan for Gawker that includes a $31 million payout to Hulk Hogan. Hogan’s suit against Gawker was financed by Pay Pal creator Peter Thiel, who is working with the upcoming Trump administration. Thiel paid all Hogan’s bill because he was upset with Gawker for outing him. Hogan’s case drove the website into bankruptcy when a Florida jury awarded him a $140 million award after they posted video of Hogan having sex with the wife of then-best friend Bubba the Love Sponge. The verdict included $55 million in economic damages, $60 million for emotional distress and $25 million in punitive damages. The deal means Hogan will get less but now has made back all the money he lost after his divorce and his son, Nick’s conviction for a wrongful death case. There is a documentary on Hulk Hogan’s legal battle with Gawker called Nobody Speak that will debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January.
