Young Avengers’ America Chavez is getting a solo book called America from Howard
the Duck’s Joe Quinones and young adult writer Gabby Rivera. Rivera’s take on
the character will have her crossing Marvel’s various universes to find herself.
The new series will finally define just how strong Chavez is since in the
stories written by Joe Casey, Kieron Gillen and Al Ewing we have seen what she
is capable of but she is capable of much more. Rivera will have her being
trained by Captain America, Storm and others such as her ancestors. According to
Editor Wil Moss Chavez' origins as the daughter of two women from this Utopian
dimension will be explored as well, "America is from this Utopian dimension
where I think it was all women. She has two moms who seemingly sacrificed
themselves to protect both that world and the whole multi-verse, including ours.
And when her moms left, America took this chance to venture out but now she
can’t get back. She’s been cut off." When talking about the series Moss also
revealed that Marvel is actively recruiting writers from the ranks of Young
Adult writers because it has been assumed that writers of the genre are also
suited for writing comics. |
