Nick Spencer having Steve Rogers as a deep cover Hydra agent and working behind
the scenes to gather power for the terrorist organization will pay off in the
event Secret Empire. The event will have Steve’s plans become known to everyone
when he tried to make Hydra a global power. Spencer used the one shot Civil War
II: The Oath to reveal that Steve Rogers is fully aware of the memories of the
non altered version of himself which makes him even more dangerous. In recent
issues of Steve Rogers: Captain America we have seen Steve use the Chitauri wave
to create issues that set him up as the only person that can solve them. That
has been countered with the work by Maria Hill and Captain Marvel to create a
planetary shield that would stop an alien invasion which Steve doesn’t want
built. That will all boil to a head when Secret Empire begins and Spencer will
use a vast number of Marvel characters to tell his story both heroes and
villains. Art duties on Empire will be begun with #0 by Daniel Acuna then Steve
McNiven, Andrea Sorrentino, and Leinil Yu will draw the nine regular issues of
the event. Aside from the main book there will be a series of one-shots and
limited series involved along the way. Emma Frost will lead a team of resistance
fighters in Secret Empire: United from Thunderbolts’ Jim Zub and Ario Anindito.
Secret Empire: Brave New World will debut a new Invaders team consisting of
Namor, the first Human Torch, Toro, Captain Marvel, Black Panther, Miles
Morales, Ironheart and the All-New Patriot. The limited series will be written
by Paul Allor and have multiple artists. Mockingbird will lead a team consisting
of Hercules, Mockingbird, Iron Man, Sam Wilson and Ant-Man in the one-shot
Secret Empire: Underground from Jeremy Whitley and Eric Koda. Black Widow will
lead a team of resistance fighters in the one-shot Secret Empire: Uprising from
Derek Landy and J. Cassara. Her team will also include Miles Morales and
Ironheart as well as the Falcon, Amadeus Cho, Nadia Pym and the Vision’s
daughter, Viv. |
