CARNAHAN QUITE BUSY

From Video Game Adaptations to the X-Force for Fox

The Grey’s Joe Carnahan is a pretty busy guy these days. He wrote the script for a film based on the Uncharted video game but dropped out of directing it because he was locked into Bad Boys for Life, which he ended up leaving. Night at the Museum’s Shawn Levy will now do the video game adaptation. Carnahan says the film surrounding treasure hunter Nathan Drake will be R-rated if they follow the script. He thinks that PG-13 movies are fine just not for all films. His take will not be an out and out Indiana Jones film due to the fact that Drake isn’t a fan of museums or archeologists. The film isn’t an adaptation of one game and will have four huge action scenes. Carnahan will write the X-Force with an option to direct. His current project is an American version of the Indonesian action film The Raid that will star The Purge’s Frank Grillo. Neither Carnahan nor Grillo are getting paid for making the film. The two are working on spec with no studio funding and will not make any money unless the film is a hit. The budget will be under $20 million. And if that wasn’t enough Carnahan eventually may get his Death Wish script done using other characters. He left the project due to creative differences and the wish of Paramount and MGM to cast Bruce Willis in the lead role. Carnahan’s version was a bit to dark for the studios so the version that will come out will be more like the Charles Bronson film.
