Hannibal
was cancelled by NBC but the show based on the Thomas Harris novels isn’t as
dead as we thought it was. Producer Bryan Fuller wants to do more episodes as
does Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen. Dancy told Collider: “I also am unwilling to
let go of that show. I loved it. It was so much greater than the sum of its
parts. That’s not to knock any part individually. I loved the experience and I
loved the end result. I’m so grateful to Bryan Fuller. Also, I feel like I’m the
recipient of this great gift, which is the community that’s been formed around
it, and the sense of ownership that so many people have. There’s a feedback loop
that I’m the beneficiary of, in some ways, and I’m very grateful for that.”
Fuller is willing to do either a 13-episode season or a shorter mini-series in a
few years. He would even be game for following the Sherlock pattern of a handful
of episodes every few years. Waiting would allow them to use aspects of Silence
of the Lambs since the rights to the books will be available next year. That
would allow Fuller to use Clarice Starling who he couldn’t use for the series
before. |
