The
sequel to Terminator Genisys is dead because Paramount Pictures has declined to
pick up the options for the sequel and the stars of the film. There was a plan
to shoot the sequel this year but Paramount decided to pass. The rights to the
franchise now belong to David Ellison’s Skydance Pictures but in 2019 they
revert back to James Cameron. There were rumors that Cameron and Ellison were
considering a new film that would be directed by Deadpool’s Tim Miller but that
seems to be dead. Arnold Schwarzenegger has said he’s not done with the
franchise and told Fandango: "I’m looking forward to doing another Terminator
movie, yes. Just because Paramount doesn’t want to pick up the Terminator
franchise, you have 15 other studios willing to do it – that doesn’t mean the
Terminator franchise is finished, right? It just means they are on their way to
negotiate with another studio, but I can’t give you the details of that. They’ll
announce that. But, yes, the Terminator franchise is never finished. And
remember that after 2018, James Cameron is getting it back, and then it will
continue on!” Ellison recently teased an announcement on the next film will be
coming later this year. |
