The Inhumans were introduced in Fantastic Four #45 and have been around ever
since. Over the years we have learned pieces of their past; that changes in
August with the limited series Inhumans: Once and Future Kings from Christopher
Priest and Phil Noto. The five-issue limited will mark the return of Priest to
Marvel. He has never worked on the Inhumans before so he was surprised when
Marvel offered him the project. As the limited series begins neither Black Bolt
or Maximus have gone through Terrigenesis, the process that changes then into
the people we know them as today. In fact none of the characters we have seen
have been changed into who we see now. The brothers actually get along but of
course that’s going to change. Black Bolt’s wife, Medusa helps interpret what he
is trying to communicate but this is a role she was never supposed to have. She
is a warrior, not a diplomat. She isn’t even married to Black Bolt yet and
according to Priest isn’t looking for a husband. The limited series will
introduce fans to The Unspoken, who is supposed to be a despot but in fact isn’t
one at all. Black Bolt will be the person who makes him question the caste
system of the Inhumans and the use of the Alpha Primitives. The change in
thinking will result in Black Bolt, Medusa and Maximus escaping Attilan to end
up in Manhattan. Once there the three will begin to walk the path that turns
them into the characters we all know. |
