TREVORROW OUT/ABRAMS IN Posted: 102017
Jurassic World’s Colin Trevorrow is no longer the director of Star Wars: Episode IX. Lucasfilm released a statement that basically said the parties had creative differences. The script wasn’t there and his attempts to fix it didn’t work. Jack Thorne is now working on the script. The event follows the firing of Phil Lord and Chris Miller from the Han Solo film, extensive reshoots of Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One by another director and the firing of Fantastic Four’s Josh Trank from a film that was never named. Friction with Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy sealed Trevorrow’s fate. His personality grated on her because when he was making Jurassic World he had free reign to express his opinion. That didn’t work here because he came off as arrogant. Once the move was announced then someone had to come in to take over and the hot rumor was since there were no issues with Star Wars: The Last Jedi Rian Johnson would return. He wasn’t interested in doing it right away and had no connection with the Episode IX script. So they asked JJ Abrams to return to finish off the trilogy. He and Argo’s Chris Terrio are now working on the script. And with the move instead of Star Wars: Episode IX being in theaters May 24th 2019 it will now come out on December 20th 2019. Paramount isn’t very happy with the announcement since Abrams has a production deal with them but aren’t openly complaining about it just yet.
