Production of the four Avatar sequels has begun. James
Cameron is shooting all four at the same time and the cost for the films has
already been rumored to be 1 billion dollars. He expects to take about eight
years working on the production, post production and the release of the four
films. At one point the first film was going to come out at the end of 2018 but
Cameron says Avatar 2 never had a release date. 20th Century Fox had announced a
December 2018 release date for the first sequel with the rest to arrive December
2020, December 2022, and December 2023 but Cameron never agreed to it. Zoe
Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Sam Worthington are all coming back
for the sequels. Lang’s character will be the main villain for all five. The
actors will only be tied up for a year or so. One actor who will not be involved
is Josh Brolin. Cameron offered him a role in the sequels and Brolin turned him
down. In a recent interview with Esquire Brolin told the magazine that Cameron
didn’t take the rejection well: “If I don’t want to do Avatar, I’m not going to
do Avatar. James Cameron’s f—ing calling me this name and that name. Whatever;
if James Cameron came to me and said, ‘Hey, man, why’d you say that?’ I’d go,
‘Because it happened.'” |
