Luke Cage #166 from David Walker and Guillermo Sana had Luke end up in a town taken over by the Ringmaster and thrown back in prison after he used his hypnotic powers on him. Walker wasn’t going to use the Ringmaster as the villain but the person he wanted was being used by someone else so Marvel suggested him. Walker decided to keep the look but make Ringmaster more sinister and a real threat. That’s why Luke didn’t take him seriously. Ringmaster is like other villains who want to rule the world but here he just wants to rule this small town. At the end of #166 Luke discovered his powers were gone and Walker will explain how that happened before the arc is over. The arcs that follow will reunite Luke with his family and yes, his father last seen in Al Ewing’s Mighty Avengers.
