A recent poll conducted by FYE.com of a thousand
millennials and a thousand Americans over the age of 50 has revealed that
millennials (born late 1980s – early 2000s) don’t like classic films. Less than
25% of millennials have watched a film from start to finish that was made before
1960 and only 33% have even seen a film from the 1960s. 30% admitted they have
never watched a black and white film all the way through, with 20% calling those
films boring. 28% in the study had seen Casablanca, 16% had seen Once Upon a
Time in the West and only 12% had seen Rear Window. The survey revealed that
millennials lie a lot more about what they’ve seen with 30% admitting having
felt social pressure to lie that they have seen an old classic in its entirety
but the over 50 crowd did this almost never. 8% of baby boomers admitted they
hadn’t seen a film made after 2010. They also seldom use streaming services. The
older crowd prefers to watch films on cable or TV while the younger crowd goes
to the movies, on video or streaming. Millennials prefer horror while Baby
Boomers prefer westerns. The films most seen by the younger crowd are: The Lion
King, Forrest Gump, Back to the Future, The Dark Knight and The Matrix. The
older crowd watch: Forrest Gump, Back to the Future, The Silence of the Lambs,
It’s a Wonderful Life and The Godfather. |
