Starting January 10th the various Avengers titles will become an ongoing
16-issue story called Avengers: No Surrender. The 16-issue story will be written
by Al Ewing, Jim Zub and Mark Waid with art by Paco Medina, Pepe Larraz and Kim
Jacinto. The arc reminds fans of Avengers Disassembled but will feel more like
Kurt Busiek and Carlos Pacheco’s Avengers Forever. According to Marvel VP Tom
Brevoort No Surrender will have a much larger cast drawing from the current
Avengers roster, the current Uncanny Avengers roster, the current U.S.Avengers
roster, and the Occupy Avengers. Former classic Avengers will appear in the arc
which is self contained and doesn’t bleed off into the Avengers solo titles. One
of the former Avengers seen in the arc is the former Living Lightning, now just
called Lightning. The arc will also bring back Bruce Banner from the dead since
Marvel has released a teaser of his return. His return will happen in March. Now
as to the threat that drives the story it involves Earth being stolen by a
mysterious force. It’s a normal day and then all hell breaks loose and the
Avengers will have to find out how and why. The teams will encounter Thanos’
Black Order and a new incarnation of the Lethal Legion. The new Legion will be a
mix of refurbished old characters and brand new ones. The new Legion will have
no major connection to earlier versions. It will clearly show that the team
isn’t Masters of Evil, who fans always compare them to. No Surrender will have a
major impact on the world of the Avengers and the rest of the Marvel Universe.
It will definitely set up Marvel’s plans for the summer. And most importantly
the 16-issue story will ship on time since all of the scripts are done and the
artists are working on it. Larraz is doing the first four issues, Jacinto the
second and Medina is doing the third month. Medina will draw the first issue of
the final month, Jacinto the second issue and Larraz will do the last two. Mark
Brooks will do all 16 covers. |
