Joel
Rose has been working in comics for a while. He was an editor for the failed DC
imprint Paradox Press in the mid-‘90s and has also teamed up with famous chef
Anthony Bourdain on Vertigo’s Get Jiro GN. He and Bourdain are currently teamed
up again on the debut title from Dark Horse Comics’ Berger Books imprint. The
duo's limited series Hungry Ghosts is a four-issue anthology series that
features art by the likes of: Vanesa Del Rey, Leonardo Manco, Alberto Ponticelli,
Paul Pope and Mateus Santolouco along with others. Rose and Bourdain met in 1982
when Bourdain was still a line cook. He sent Rose a mock up of a comic book in
the mail and when Rose responded he just showed up on his door step. Rose
published Bourdain’s first story, Chef’s Night Out and helped him with Kitchen
Confidential. That led to the two eventually creating Get Jiro and the prequel
that followed. Hungry Ghosts was supposed to have happened at DC but that never
happened so the samurai horror project ended up coming to Berger’s Dark Horse
imprint. Each issue contains two stories and after the initial run the team have
even more stories to tell if sales are strong. They are also working on a few as
of yet unnamed projects. |
