In an effort to expand their audience DC will launch a new
imprint called Black Label. The imprint will use DC’s classic heroes but place
them in stories that are outside the current DC Universe continuity. The line
will be supervised by Vertigo Executive Editor Mark Doyle and launches in
August. DC Black Label will be aimed at mature readers with its own distinct
format and release schedule. The first book of the imprint is Frank Miller and
John Romita Jr’s three issue limited series Superman: Year One. Other announced
titles include: the three issue limited series Wonder Woman Historia: The
Amazons from Kelly Sue DeConnick and Phil Jimenez; Scott Snyder and Greg
Capullo’s futuristic Batman: Last Knight on Earth; Brian Azzarello and Lee
Bermejo’s Batman: Damned which will team Batman and John Constantine; Greg
Rucka’s Wonder Woman: Diana’s Daughter and John Ridley’s The Other History of
the DC Universe which will feature John Stewart, Extraño, Vixen, Supergirl,
Katana, Rene Montoya and others. No artists have been named for the Rucka and
Ridley projects. |
