URBAN TALKS DREDD Posted: 041818
The film didn’t make much money but audiences loved Karl Urban’s performance in 2012’s Dredd as did most critics. The film now has a huge cult status. It had a screenplay by Annihilation’s Alex Garland and a great performance from Urban. Urban has been more than willing to do a sequel but producers didn’t like the script so it never happened. But all of a sudden talk started about a TV event series that would be called Judge Dredd: Mega City One. Urban has admitted he was been approached about the project but isn’t going to commit until he sees a script. The series would not just star him but involve other Judges working in the massive city. And in a recent interview Urban admitted that most of Dredd was actually directed by Garland and not Pete Travis. After the film was completed the studio wouldn’t let Travis edit the film. Garland was told to take over and he contributed so much he asked for a co-director credit. Then before the film opened a joint statement was released from Travis and Garland that claimed they had agreed to an “unorthodox collaboration” before production had even started and Garland dropped his claim. Urban blew that all up by admitting Travis had little or nothing to do with the finished film.
