this summer, the Guardians of the Galaxy will co-star in the new Infinity Wars
event miniseries as they attempt to keep the Infinity Stones out of the wrong
hands. Marvel has broadly hinted that major characters may be killed off during
Infinity Wars, and more recently, the company has indicated that the Guardians
will be “no more.” In their place, a new team will rise: the Asgardians of the
Galaxy. This new epic space opera comes from the team of Cullen Bunn and
Matteo Lolli and the team is made up of a mix of second string Asguardians from
the last 40 odd years of publication. The current roster includes: ANGELA, the
not-so-beloved half-sister of Thor. The hotheaded VALKYRIE – and the human who
shares her form, Annabelle Riggs. SKURGE the EXECUTIONER, freshly returned from
Hel. THROG, the mightiest frog of thunder. Kevin Masterson, the boy who took his
father’s mace to become the hero THUNDERSTRIKE. And the DESTROYER, the Asgardian
armor built to take down Celestials – its wielder unknown. Since Angela is a
former member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, perhaps when the Guardians
disappear, she steps in to fill the void with her own band of unlikely heroes.
