The
John Wick franchise has been a surprise since day one. The first film was an
action packed extravaganza that told of a retired assassin drawn back into the
game because his car was stolen. Wick introduced a secret society of assassins
living by a moral code with very specific consequences if you broke the code.
Wick 2 added multiple layers to that society and was more impressive than the
first film. It ended with Keanu Reeves’ character being excommunicated from the
society and on the run. John Wick: Chapter 3, which is in production right now
will end the franchise at least as far as the Reeves character, is concerned.
The film will reveal the secrets of the High Table, while revealing where John
comes from, and where he wants to go. The cast for the film includes: Halle
Berry, Anjelica Huston, Jason Mantzoukas, Mark Dacascos, Tiger Hu Chen, The
Raid’s Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman, and Billions’ Asia Kate Dillon.
Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane and Lance Reddick will be in the film as well.
The franchise will branch out into a TV series called The Continental, set in
the series of hotels the assassins stay while on the job. The show will run on
the Starz cable network. Reeves will appear in at least one episode. Lionsgate
has also gained the rights to a spec script called Ballerina, about a young
woman raised as an assassin who must hunt down the other assassins that murdered
her family. |
