We
were to have gotten a film follow up to Mad Max: Fury Road but that’s on hold.
Director George Miller’s production company, Kennedy Miller Mitchell (KMM), has
taken Warner Bros. Pictures to court claiming the studio acted poorly. KMM
claims Warners told Miller not to shoot certain scenes for the film. They also
forced him to shoot an entirely new ending, which caused production to go longer
which ended up with reshoots that resulted in major delays. Warners made Miller
screen the film ten times and after each screening they asked for costly
reshoots. KMM claims that they are contractually owed $7 million for coming in
under budget during the production but Warners is claiming they went over
budget. The multiple reshoots ended up costing $31 million more than what KMM
was told the film should cost. Warners defense is that the new scenes and
changes came after it was clear that film was going to come in over budget and
late. They also claim the new ending "was a suggestion, not a mandate." Miller
has two scripts ready for potential sequels but the legal dispute keeps them in
the can. Tom Hardy says there will be more Max films but he has no idea when
they will get made. Miller’s production company is also claiming that KMM was to
have gotten $7 million as a bonus if "the final net cost" of the movie was not
more than $157 million after certain costs were excluded from calculations. He
also claims that if Warners was going to find another company to finance a Max
film then KMM would be obligated to find the money. Warners tried to get the
lawsuits moved to California but the judge says the case will he heard in
Australia. |
