UFC
and Bellator veteran Melvin Guillard is currently in a Colorado jail after his
arrest in connection with a fight in a club earlier this month. He was in court
on a separate domestic violence and assault case when police took him into
custody on a warrant for simple assault. According to police he knocked out a
bar patron after an argument at a club in Denver on 9/3. Video footage seen on
TMZ has Guillard knocking a guy out before he fled the club. He is charged with
three counts of second-degree assault and one count of third-degree assault in
relation to the incident. His bail is set at $10,000. On 10/10 he has to appear
in court to answer for the domestic violence charges, which include
second-degree assault by strangulation and domestic violence. His on/off
girlfriend claims that he punched and choked her on 4/23 while both were at his
coach’s house. She says they had just had dinner and then sex when they began to
argue over their relationship. After telling him to leave his wife the two
started screaming at each other. He then started strangling her and stopped when
she slapped him. Once that happened he let her go but the fight started again
and she claims he put her in a choke hold. When police were called Guillard
didn’t dispute the argument over their relationship and admitted he picked her
up by the neck. He claims that she slapped him when he told her to leave. The
police noticed that he had been drinking but was able to tell his side but she
was having a hard time explaining what happened. That 10/10 court date will
include Guillard answering for another second-degree assault case that happened
on 9/30/2017. That incident stemmed from the police called to a hospital where a
man claimed Guillard assaulted him at his home during an argument over his
girlfriend. He told the police that he and Guillard were friends, but Guillard
started flirting with his girlfriend via social media. The man told the cops
that a friend stormed into his house and started a fight. When the friend was
pushed out of the house and walked to the street he saw Guillard sitting outside
in a car and another argument started. That fight led to the man going to the
hospital to get stitches and a metal plate inserted in his head to fix a broken
orbital bone. |
