The
Vision limited series from Chelsea Cain, Marc Mohan and Aud Koch has been
cancelled. It was first rumored that the six-issue limited series following up
Tom King and Gabriel Walta’s 12-issue series from Cain in her first Marvel work
since the cancellation of her Mockingbird series. Cain went on social media to
report that four issues had been turned in already and that she has been working
on the project for two years. Marvel hasn’t explained why the book was cancelled
but Cain says it wasn’t because of her. There was a lot of controversy revolving
around Cain when she was doing Mockingbird after she called for more
female-driven comics at Marvel and her last issue which had Bobbi Morse wearing
an “Ask Me About My Feminist Agenda” t-shirt on the last issue’s cover. Cain has
since been vocal about her concerns with the comics industry, especially as it
involves freelancers: “The most shocking part of it is that the people who work
in it, who support these institutional norms, they’re the best people you’d ever
want to meet. They love comics. And the freelancers? They’re held hostage by the
work. When Marvel asks you to let something go, to toe the line, the implication
is clear. DC and Marvel dominate this industry. Freelancers don’t want to make
enemies of institutions, because freelancers depend on the next job that comes
along.” She says she has never had any negative interaction with anyone at
Marvel but since she has been so vocal about her book being cancelled she isn’t
getting any more work there. |
