Danny
Boyle is out as the director of James Bond 25. Producers Michael G. Wilson and
Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig jointly announced Boyle’s exit which is due to
‘creative differences’. Boyle had come up with a new take that everyone liked
and he and John Hodge had worked on the script for months. Then the issues
started. Broccoli wasn’t a fan of bringing Hodge in. Craig and Broccoli weren’t
fans of Boyle’s casting wishes for the film’s supporting roles and him bringing
in his own people. The Sun suggested that Craig and Broccoli wanted the film to
end with a finale that made the audience wonder if Bond was dead-something Boyle
didn’t like. A shortlist was put together for possible new directors that
included American Animals’ Bart Layton, Star Trek 4’s S.J. Clarkson and White
Boy Rick’s Yann Demange. But shockingly, Maniac’s Cary Fukunaga got the job and
his hiring means the film will begin filming at Pinewood Studios on 3/4/2019 and
reach theaters on 2/14/2020. Boyle’s script has been tossed. Longtime Bond
writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade had a treatment ready for the film before
Boyle came in and that treatment will be turned into a script. Bond 25 will star
Craig, Naomie Harris, Ben Whishaw and Ralph Fiennes but not Wonder Woman’s Saïd
Taghmaoui, who Boyle wanted as the lead villain. |
