Ridley Scott says the Alien franchise could be
as big as Star Wars and Star Trek. He told the Toronto Sun, “There’s no reason
why Alien should now not be on the same level for fans as Star Trek and Star
Wars. So I think the next step as to where we go is, do we sustain the series
with the evolution of the beast or do we reinvent something else? I think you
need to have an evolution on this famous beast because he’s the best monster
ever, really.” The problem is that Disney now owns Fox so it is up to them to
determine if there will be another Alien film. We already knew that the Neill Blomkamp’s planned direct Aliens sequel was dead because he has lost interest in
the project. The follow up to Alien: Covenant was Alien: Awakening which would
have told the story of Michael Fassbender’s David and the return of the
Engineers with the survivors of that race coming after the android. The film was
going to take place either on the Engineer’s planet or the planet discovered in
the first film. A rumored Alien TV series was just that, a rumor. Scott is
willing to continue the Blade Runner franchise and has an idea if Warner Bros is
willing. The franchise is getting an anime series that will run on Adult Swim
called Blade Runner: Black Lotus. |
