The Sherlock team of Mark Gatiss
and Steven Moffat is working on a new series based on Dracula. The plan is for
three or four feature-length episodes per season and the BBC is working out the
details. When the show was announced it wasn’t clear if it would be a period
piece or not but we now know the show will be set in 1897. Gatiss starred in a
stage production of Dracula last year but the series will have The Girl in the
Spider’s Web’s Claes Bang as the legendary vampire. Bang said in a statement: "I
am thrilled to be taking on the role of Dracula, especially when the script is
in the hands of the incredible talents of Steven Moffat, Mark Gatiss and the
team responsible for Sherlock. I’m so excited that I get to dig into this iconic
and super-interesting character. Yes, he’s evil, but there’s also so much more
to him, he’s charismatic, intelligent, witty and sexy. I realize that there’s a
lot to live up to with all the amazing people that have played him over the
years, but I feel so privileged, to be taking on this incredible character." In
other Dracula news Paramount Pictures has gotten the rights to Dracul, the first
prequel to Dracula that has been authorized by the estate of author Bram Stoker.
The story follows a 21-year old Bram Stoker who meets with an ungodly evil that
he traps in an ancient tower all the while writing down the events that led him
there. IT’s Andy Muschietti is expected to direct. |
