Nightwing
#57 had the Joker’s Daughter return in an issue that was co-written by Zack
Kaplan. Kaplan is writing the next few issues with Scott Lobdell, who was
co-writing the title with Fabian Nicieza. Lobdell and Niceieza were replacing
the fired Ben Percy and their first arc had Dick Grayson after recovering from
being shot in the head and is now suffering memory loss while using the name Ric.
Ric was trying to make a new life but in #56 he was drawn into helping a group
of vigilantes who were trying to fight Scarecrow. He figured out how to beat
them and is now helping this team calling itself Nightwings. #57 and 58 will
show Ric and his team have to deal with the Joker’s Daughter. Kaplan has worked
on the Image title Eclipse and will work on Nightwing until Dan Jurgens takes
over Nightwing in April. Kaplan knew of Nightwing but didn’t fully understand
him until he researched the character who has never found a home and always
finds himself dragged from one situation to another. Kaplan thinks Ric will
always want to help people in trouble and Dick Grayson is still there in the fog
of his memory. The irony that he is leading a team of people inspired by him but
don’t know that he is the original Nightwing will be a part of the two issue
arc. And in dealing with the Joker’s Daughter we will see that she may be crazy
but her reasons for being in Bludhaven are noble.
