Several
Hollywood studios are courting filmmaker J.J. Abrams about signing a mega deal
with them. His deal with Paramount and Warners is about to expire. There have
been some huge deals signed lately, which include Ryan Murphy who closed a $300
million deal at Netflix and Greg Berlanti who re-signed with Warner Bros.
Television for $400 million. But Abrams is a producer/writer/director who works
in film and TV. So his deal would include movies, TV shows, digital content,
music, games, consumer products and even theme park opportunities. The deal
would also have to include a set number of movies with guaranteed slots on a
studio’s slate. Abrams wants everything to be under one roof and so he could end
up with a deal worth over $500 million. The fight to get Bad Robot under its
wings is between Universal, Disney and Warner Bros Pictures. Disney and Warners
are the front runners but Universal is trying hard to get in the game and Apple
is rumored to also be in the mix. Paramount is getting a courtesy meeting but
they may not have the funds. Once the deal is signed there will be more projects
from Bad Robot.
