Chris
Pine and Chris Hemsworth will not star in the planned Star Trek 4. Both were in
negotiations but talks between the actors, Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media
have fallen apart. Once they were signed then negotiations were to have begun
with Zoe Saldana, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg and John Cho. Pine was
due to return as Captain Kirk, while Hemsworth was to have played his father in
a time-traveling adventure. Since both are considered A-list actors they
expected to be paid the going rate but accuse the producers of forcing them to
take a cut in pay to return for the movie. Pine, in particular, had a deal
already set so he had no interest in getting paid less than he did for the
previous films. And of course Hemsworth has Marvel money. Paramount has had a
regime change since 4 was announced and they don’t want to stick to what was
already agreed to so the film is in limbo even though the script is done and
Jessica Jones’ S. J. Clarkson has been hired to direct it. Paramount could fast
track the Quentin Tarantino R-rated version of Trek but that film is years away
from happening. According to Simon Pegg QT is focused on Once Upon a Time in
Hollywood that he hasn’t done anything aside from giving the idea to The
Revenant’s Mark L. Smith to turn it into a screenplay. Karl Urban says the idea
is using the current cast of the film so Paramount may have to settle up with
Pine to keep QT on the project. Urban says that even though the film is expected
to aim for an R-rating we will not get a lot of swearing or nudity. |
