current Image Comics/Skybound comic
Excellence, the state of magic isn't great but the son of one of the masters of
magic is out to fix it. The title is from Brandon Thomas, Khary Randolph and
Emilio Lopez and they say they aren’t telling a Harry Potter story with
magicians of color. The first page of the first issue gave us a list of rules
for magic users in this world but Thomas says those rules hide a darker purpose.
The rules are drilled into every young magician from their superiors and
trainers at an early age but reinforced by family members, who have been
connected to the Aegis at some point. So everyone has a level of programming
that can’t be ignored or so we think. One thing that is controlled is the making
of wands and the main character Spencer, who can cast spells with or without a
wand is told he shouldn’t use his natural abilities. Spencer has been born into
the legendary Dales’ family but at times isn’t capable of living up to the
status of his father. Spencer’s brother Aaron will be used to contrast Spencer's
experience since their early lives were totally different.
