When
the New 52 debuted Wally West was nowhere to be seen until he returned in the DC
Universe: Rebirth one-shot. Once Wally showed up the rest of the DCU started
remembering the original reality, some more than others. But the return had
issues since Wally’s wife, Linda Park, refused to accept the memories of her and
Wally's previous life, and their two children never existed. Wally ended up in
Sanctuary and ended up killing the other patients when he lost control of his
powers. He made things worse by framing Harley Quinn and Booster Gold for the
accident and faking his own death. When Heroes In Crisis ended Wally found
himself in prison. Wally’s fate will be examined in the six-issue Flash Forward
limited series from Scott Lobdell and Brett Booth this September. According to
Lobdell, "Often when you read about the marketing of an event, you'll see a
variation of, 'After this issue...nothing will ever be the same!' But then the
next month's issues come out and -- everything is the same. Reading Heroes in
Crisis, it was very clear that Wally's story couldn't end on the ninth issue. So
much had happened to him over the last year, and going back to Rebirth and going
all the way back to the New 52 and Flashpoint...everyone agreed we'd be doing a
huge disservice to a character that it could easily be argued is one of the
greatest fan favorites in all of comics." Wally’s return was always promised as
returning hope to the DC Universe and Lobdell says that everything we have seen
about Wally since Flashpoint, New 52, Rebirth and Heroes In Crisis has been one
story all along. Wally will take on a villain hinted at on in the cover for the
first issue and we have seen this villain before during the last two years.
