IDW'S SYNOPSIS:
|
It all comes down to this! Eben and Stella face the
final challenge against the vampire horde, but this time Eben has an edge - or
does he? Be there for horror of the final days of night! |
BO'S REVIEW:
|
The conclusion of this Sam Raimi produced movie to
be is as scary as the first two issues of this IDW mini-series.
The story, in case you weren't able to pick up the first two is about a couple
of regular folks who end up in a small Alaskan town that happens to be inhabited
by vampires. Of course, when the couple realizes this it's nighttime and due to
the "30 days of night" they're really in trouble.
When everything is said and done only one of the two are able to get out of town
without growing fangs but the path to this point is damn cool. Steve Niles' tale
is gloomy & moderately twisted. His earlier work for Todd MacFarlane at Image
really hurt him because the titles he was given had no chance of success-Hellspawn,
Spawn: Dark Ages. Both books were hopeless derivatives of a character that is in
itself a derivation of Spider-Man and Batman.
Ben Templesmith's (who also wasted his time with Todd) art is similar to the
style used by Automatic Kafka's Ashley Wood so if you like his stuff then this
should please your palate. |

IMAGE/DEVIL'S DUE'S SYNOPSIS:
|
It's the year 1994, just after the government
mothballed the classic G.I. JOE organization... or did they? Cobra is still up
to its dirty tricks, and there's only one group of people qualified to stop
them. You can guess who that is! This story arc fills in many of the gaps
between G.I. JOE of the 1980's, and the current Image Comics series, and
features the return of original G.I. JOE writer, Larry Hama, joined by (Superman
and Captain America) artist Dan Jurgens. |
BO'S REVIEW:
|
When the first "Joe" series launched from Marvel
years ago Larry Hama wrote most, if not all, the stories. In fact, Hama was
trying to buy the rights to the series himself before local publisher Due ponied
up the cash. I believe Dan Jurgens also drew at least one or two issues of both
Marvel Joe titles but Bob Layton never inked one of them.
This initial arc brings in elements from the Marvel series by reintroducing the
‘jugglers’ who were the team of generals who gave them their missions. This arc
also fills in the gap between the end of the Marvel series and the first issue
of the relaunch. The story involves a machine that the bad guys want and the
Joe’s efforts to stop them.
This first issue reads just like the Marvel ones and that makes it the best
issue of the new "Joe" revival ever since it doesn’t feel forced in any way. |
