I've tried, I really have. I read this issue of the latest
Transformers mini-series three times trying to find something to
recommend this to anyone who wasn't already into the concept. I
just can't though. To do so would have involved someone at
Dreamwave dropping off at my door a sack of money or hypnotizing
me into becoming someone else. Neither happened so this book
sucks large and this is the last time I even look at anything
the company does until they bring back Darkminds.
This first issue starts with a war up in Alaska between the big
ass robots. It's page after page of gunplay and snow filled with
dialogue I was told never to use in screenplay class unless I
wanted to evoke laughs. Some of the big ass robots turn
themselves into cars but the battle wages on and on until more
explosions happen and the good robots find themselves in a
situation that I won't see them get out of unless that big bag
of money shows up.
I suppose there is a lot here for fans of the concept but in
order for a book to be a hit it has to appeal to people who
don't know the names of all the Transformers and why they can do
what they can do. This is another of those insular titles that
exist just so the 'fanboys' can get their rocks off then sneer
at the ones who 'just don't get' it. This is one of those books
that give you multiple covers, one of which is made of platinum
and forged in the Ukraine. It's done so you can buy three
versions of the same book and giggle about it to your friends. I
do get the concept but I think it's stupid and refuse to meet it
even halfway. |
