"I came away very impressed by both The Colony and Team F.I.S.T."
For those wondering who is Chikara Pro wrestling company? Chikara pro wrestling is an independent company that’s based out of Philadelphia. They have been around for the last decade. Their wrestling is a global style it includes Lucha libre and the current American style of pro wrestling. Mike Quackenbush one of the best independent wrestlers and he’s their main booker. In an odd circumstance both Ring of Honor and Chikara both announced shows on the same day at different venues. The owners of both companies got together and decided to run both shows at the same place. They also had a couple of inter promotional matches.
MATCH 1:
The Swarm and Shard versus The Colony and Jigsaw
The match quickly turned into a brawl with all 8 guys just trading blows all over the ringside areas. The swarm was able to gain control of the match for a few minutes by focusing on soldier ant. The match quickly broke down again with the Colony and Jigsaw doing the 10 count punches in the turnbuckles. Jigsaw got a near fall with a brain buster. Soldier Ant got the victory with a submission.
MATCH 2:
Kobald versus Mixed Martial Archie
This match was a comedic match that kept the kids occupied and even had the adults laughing. Archie had portrayed a character that was a MMA fighter who was dabbling into pro wrestling. The highlight of the match was that Archie hit Kobald with a big punch. The referee had to show Archie how to make the cover. Archie winds up picking the victory after the punch.
MATCH 3:
The Batiri versus The Throwbacks
The throwbacks took control of the match in the opening minutes of the match. Both members of Throwbacks kept tagging in and out of the match. The Batiri gained control of the match by focusing on Dasher. There was some dissension in the ranks of The Throwbacks with his partner taking a seat on the outside. Dasher got the victory after nailing Kadama with his football helmet.
MATCH 4:
Seventeen versus Tian Long
Seventeen took on the recent graduate of their wrestling school. This match didn’t last long as Seventeen got the quick victory with an armbar.
MATCH 5:
The Young Bucks vs. Arik Cannon and Darin Corbin
This match was fast paced from the opening bell. All four competitors were trading moves in a rapid succession. Corbin connected on Matt with standing sliced bread for a near fall. Corbin hit Matt with a reverse lung blower for a near fall. The Young bucks gained control of the match with several double team moves. Cannon got a near fall with a big time brain buster. Eventually in the end The Young Bucks got the victory with their More Bang for the Buck finisher.
MATCH 6:
Bravado Brothers, Tim Donst, Hammerschmidt vs. Team 3.0 and Ultramantis Black
The face team of 3.0 and Black fought this bout down a member as Donst attacked Hallowicked during Intermission. 3.0 and Black kept the other team back on their heels in the opening minutes of the match. Eventually the numbers of the other team just overwhelmed 3.0 and Black. The heel team took control by focusing on team 3.0. Eventually Black got the hot tag and the faces took and cleaned house. Team 3.0 and Black got the victory with a Boston crab.
MATCH 7:
Kevin Steen vs. Eddie Kingston for the Chikara World Title
This is one of the inter promotional matches advertised for both shows. This match came out of Ring of Honor’s 10th anniversary show. Steen attacked Kingston as he was out to promote Synergy. This match was more of a fight than a technical bout. They were trading several forearms back and forth. Steen was able to gain control of the match. Steen was able to lock in the sharpshooter that forced Kingston to go for the ropes. Kingston tried several times to hit Steen with his backdrop driver. Steen kept reversing the maneuver. It came down at one point is who could land their finisher first. Kingston got the victory by disqualification after Steen hit him with a low blow.
MATCH 8:
The F.I.S.T. versus Gran Akuma
The stipulation of the match was that Akuma had to put up his career in order to get this match. Akuma was able to gain the early advantage by hitting and moving. Akuma was able to pick up several near falls in rapid succession. Eventually the numbers caught up to Akuma as F.I.S.T were able to triple team him on several occasions. Icarus at one point went for his fanny pack that was at ringside. Gregory Irons came down to the ringside area to distract both Icarus and Taylor. Akuma was able to get the win after rolling up Garganno.
MATCH 9:
Sara Del Ray vs. El Generico
This was the main event of the Chikara card. This was a first time ever match up in wrestling business. The first few minutes of the match was slow as each competitor showed respect to each other. Then just on a dime the whole atmosphere changed as Generico delivered the first major offensive move. El Generico connected with a yakuza kick in the corner. Del Ray rolled to the outside to get a breather. Generico quickly followed up with a dive onto the floor. Del Ray was able to regain control of the match by connecting with a rolling forward kick. Generico delivered a blue thunder bomb for a near fall. Del Ray at one point during the match was able to lock in the Yes lock for a near fall. Del Ray connected with a kick right to the head. Del Ray was able to get the victory with a pile driver.
SHOW RATING:
Show Rating: 3 stars out of 4. All of the matches were solid from beginning to end. The Kingston and Steen and also Del Ray and Generico tore down the building. Chikara is the only promotion that has no problems with putting an inter gender match on as its’ main event. Del Ray proved in my opinion without a doubt that she’s one of the best wrestlers in the world right now male or female. Many of the performers on the card have a bright future in the business. I came away very impressed by both The Colony and Team F.I.S.T. This show is already up for download through www.smartmarkvideo.com.
