THIS WEEKS HIGHLIGHTS

"This is where it gets complicated"...

COMICBOOKMAN SEZ: Not really, but this is going to be a busy week at the store sales wise. Planets are converging, the stars are aligning, other stores are having their "BIG SALES" and we're...well, we're doing what we always do and making the rest of them look silly in comparison. Starting with Sunday-that's right THIS SUNDAY (112314):

BOXED BACK ISSUE SALE: We're at the end of the alphabet folks and this week all my boxed back issues that begin with the letters "U" thru "Z" and are priced at $5.00 or less are $1.00 each. That's Sunday (112314) thru Saturday (112914) and includes titles like Vampirella, What If, Y-The Last Man, Zorro and of course EVERY SINGLE X-MEN related title on our X-MEN table. Yup, Cable, Deadpool, Generation X, Magneto, Storm and all the rest of the "X-MEN FAMILY" of comics all count.

GOBBLEDY GOOKER SALE-A-BRATION Thought I forgot about this didn't you? Actually, I did, I should have mentioned it last week but it slipped through the cracks. Each year I hold four seasonal, week long Sunday thru Saturday Sale-A-Brations: Winter Wonderland, Free Comicbook Day, Store Anniversary and Gobbledy Gooker. For seven days everything in the store is 20% Off and all Boxed Back Issues are 50% Off. Gobbledy Gooker begins this Sunday (112314) and the only exclusions to the sale are: 111914 & 112614 new shipping, bulk supplies and the BBI Sale "U-Z" titles listed above. A lot of folks have been asking us what we'll be doing for Small Business Saturday on 112914. Since, that'll be the last day of both the "Gobbledy Gooker" and "Boxed Back Issue" sales - we'll be doing that.

BLACK FRIDAY: This is the "Big One" and as I have done in past years, all details on the Black Friday Sale will be posted on the store's website this Wednesday (112614). I'll also be sending out a special Black Friday edition of this very newsletter with all of the website's details on Wednesday. I can, however, tell you three things about our Black Friday Sale:

1) Doors open at 5:00 AM and the sale lasts until 8:00PM.

2) All the sales listed above are suspended for the 15 hours of the sale (believe me - this will be a good thing.)

3) All 112614 new shipping items will NOT be part of the Black Friday Sale - so if you're coming in for New Comic Wednesday to get your new comics, new trades or new action figures don't worry, you won't be missing out on a better deal come Friday.

Of course, all this week's new comics (111914 & 112614) will be 15% off all week long and our seven "1st DAY SALE" titles will all be 40% off all day on the first Wednesday of their release - as they always have been. Gobble Gobble everyone!

At Alternate Reality we order 99.9% of the comics PREVIEW'S solicits each month. Keep that in mind as you read the numbers below, they not only break down our week, but they're also a pretty accurate representation of the week in comics nationwide.

Considering it's the last shipping day before Black Friday, it's something of a smaller week that one might expect. Eleven fewer titles this week overall with the brunt of the slippage coming from the Top 5 for the Week of 111914. DC retains the top spot but shipping nine fewer titles than last week. The middle three positions keep the same players but shift their positions all around. IDW takes 2nd Place with twenty four titles, Marvel drops to 3rd Place with twenty-one and Image slips slightly to 4th Place with twenty this week. Dynamite again holds onto 5th Place again shipping out the same number of titles as last week. INDY COMICS numbers remain unchanged with sixty-five titles again. Extending out the Indy numbers, the 6th Place shipper for the week is Dark Horse with fourteen titles, BOOM! is again in 7th Place with eleven titles and Action Lab/Danger Zone pulls into 8th Place with eight titles. As we move into the final month of shipping for the calendar/fiscal year, expect to see many long standing late titles hit the racks as publishers try to clean up their books for the accountants.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS: Since we last met, a gentleman came into the store and asked me if there were any science fiction themed comics that had come out lately. I couldn't think of anything (I'm sure there was something - like Image's LOW!!) but like Romance, War and Westerns - Science Fiction is essentially a dead genre in comics. Plenty of Sci-Fi concepts to make the superhero soap operas go-go-go but pure Bradbury, Asimov, Dick type Science Fiction? Which brings me to our BOOK OF THE WEEK: ODCY #1 from Image by writer Matt (can't keep Sex Criminals in print) Fraction and artist Christian Ward. It's a gender bent, eye popping, psychedelic, science fiction odyssey set in the aftermath of a 26th century long intergalactic war. Let's not kid ourselves, Fraction's huge success with Sex Criminals is the selling point of this book, so give it a 40% Off try this week. Speaking of science fiction, IDW's SHADOW SHOW #1 is an anthology book of Ray Bradbury stories put together by some of the top talent in comics. The first issue has Joe Hill (yup, that Joe Hill) adapting the classic "By The Silver Water of Lake Champlain". Meanwhile, over at DC, Jim Corrigan's Specter makes his New 52 debut in GOTHAM BY MIDNIGHT #1 (also 40% Off this Wednesday). Plumbing the depths of the INDY PIT, we have CROSSED PLUS 100 #1 from Avatar Comics which is a sampler of penciled pages and Alan Moore's notes for the upcoming spin-off series of the Crossed Universe 100 years later. PLANET GIGANTIC #1 is Action Lab's stab at the giant monster market as two genetically engineered teenagers crash land on a strange planet as they face down a giant rock monster (also 40% Off Wednesday).
