MARVEL'S SYNOPSIS:
All Peter Parker wanted to do was catch a movie with some friends... but NO!
Instead, he's got to save the city from a legion of lizards set loose by the
sinister Serpent Society! And if that wasn't enough, one of his oldest foes is
ready to rampage through the streets of NYC all Godzilla-style! Sometimes being
a super hero really bites -- with big pointy fangs!
BO'S REVIEW:
This month’s installment of MA: Spider-Man should appeal more to young boys than
young girls since the book has the Lizard as the villain. We start out with
Spidey fighting the Lizard and learn that this version isn’t the one we know. In
fact there is a whole mess of Lizard’s here and that’s due to the Serpent
Society. The fast paced story bounces from silence to slimy from page to page
and we even get a giant lizard/Spidey battle when it’s all over. Jonboy Meyers
seems to be having a lot of fun here. His Spidey has a larger than normal head
which gives the book a manga feel. The story also has a sub plot involving Peter
being asked to do something with the cool kids and that something should induce
a few chuckles.

MARVEL'S SYNOPSIS:
When Peter Parker's biology class goes on a field trip to a popular aquatic
theme park, Pete can't wait for a day full of water, whales and walruses. But
our hero never expected to find himself face-to-fin with an Atlantean villain
determined to release the park's animal inhabitants back to the freedom of the
ocean! Looks like Spidey is in DEEP trouble!
BO'S REVIEW:
This fun little issue (the MA books have a tendency to
be entertaining) takes place in a Sea World like amusement park that Peter and
his class visit on a field trip. One of the attractions here is a killer whale
and Orka, the semi-lame Sub-Mariner villain drops by to free his brother from
captivity. The slick and shiny artwork keeps the story moving and Sumerak makes
perfect use of the storytelling adage ‘never introduce something unless you plan
to use it later’. Approaching this book from an adult perspective makes you
realize that as villains go Orka isn’t a very interesting one but if you look at
him from a child’s eyes then he actually is. This issue is a quick read but as I
said it’s a fun one.

Writer:

Vincent Villagrasa
MSRP:
$2.99

MARVEL'S SYNOPSIS:
A night at the museum becomes a complete cat-astrophe
when a feline femme fatale procures a priceless piece
of Native American art. But the fur really begins to
fly when the beautiful Black Cat is caught in the
perilous pounce of the Puma! Looks like we've got
ourselves a cat fight, Spidey...and you're caught in
the middle! (Watch out for hairballs!)
BO'S REVIEW:
The stories told in Marvel Adventures are always
pleasant and this is no exception to the rule. Here
young audiences are introduced to the Puma, the Native
American hero/villain and reintroduced to the Black
Cat. Sumerak’s premise is simple. Peter Parker is sent
to cover an exhibit of Native American art by Jonah as
a counter point to what he usually wants Peter’s
pictures for. The assignment brings Peter in contact
with Thomas Fireheart (Puma), that contact brings in
the Black cat to steal his totem and from there we are
on. Villagrasa shows a talent for action sequences
here and the story is light and breezy. This book is
for the younger crowd but is enjoyable for everyone. |

MARVEL'S
SYNOPSIS:
Start your engines, Spider-Fans, because Peter Parker
is about to hit the highway on one of the most
exciting adventures of his young life -- Midtown
High's Driver's Ed course! But the road to
four-wheeled freedom becomes bumpy when the monstrous
Man-Bull stampedes through the city streets! It's
high-octane hijinks at the speed of Spidey! Written by
Mark Sumerak with art by Ryan Stegman.
BO'S REVIEW:
This month’s offering for the little ones has Peter
trying to get his driver’s license. We start out with
Peter seeing himself as the coolest guy in school with
wheels before he realizes that he is dreaming. Once
the story returns to the ‘real world’ we see Peter
taking a spin out on the road with his teacher but
since this is a comic we know that his alter ego has
to become involved. The story is light and breezy and
will entertain kids. |
