Ask any kid under the age of 7 who their favorite race car is and chances are they’ll all respond the same way, Lightning McQueen. That’s right, the star of Disney & Pixar’s smash hit “Cars” is back in a brand new, or maybe not so new adventure. Ever wonder how Lightning and his gang got together? When he met Mack? Or where he got the nickname ‘Lightning’ from anyway? Well boys and girls hurry up and get to the shop to pick up the first issue of “The World of Cars: The Rookie” to read all about Lightning, or should I call him ‘Bulldozer’ McQueen’s very first race. It’s packed with hilarious wisecracks, and auto-related puns that will have you laughing so hard you just might blow a gasket! Albert Carreres’ art is so good at making the characters look just like they did in the movie; at times you might just get motion sickness!
Boom! Kids is also the very same company that is bringing ‘The Incredibles’ to comic book shops, along with a slew of other Disney & Pixar properties, so if you’re fans of the movies stick around, it looks like this summer the real blockbusters are at your friendly local comic book shop, Alternate Reality!
 

Oh boy! It looks like the whole family is at it again as The Incredibles take on Futurion, an evil robot from the future who hopes to take over the world with the help of his dinosaur army. It’s no surprise that The Incredibles are able to make short work of the crazy tin can, and make it home in time to have a friendly BBQ with some neighbors. When Dash alerts his father, Mr. Incredible, about Futurion’s last-ditch effort to devolve zoo animals into deadly dino doomsday devices, Dad immediately drops everything, and heads out on patrol. It’s a good thing The Incredibles have such good friends who are always there to back them up, because Mr. Incredible needs more help than he thinks. Writer Mark Waid crafts a clever story using everyone’s favorite (or second favorite) superhero family in a way that one, or both comic reading generations of your family can enjoy.

It’s a fun filled three pack of serious laughs, and excitement as Cartoon Network unleashes Ben 10 Alien Force, Codename: Kids Next Door and Samurai Jack all in one comic for only $2.50!

First up, Ben 10 takes on a rival who has his own Omnitrix, and can copy any of the creatures Ben can turn into. The two take turns smacking each other around and transforming into a wide variety of aliens and weirdoes. Then, Samurai Jack finds himself trapped inside The Tunnel of Stone (as opposed to say, Ice Cream), and must fight his way past more than 20 stone samurai warrior spirits. Along the way Jack comes across a beautiful girl named Grace, but can he save her from the tunnel, and still save himself? Finally, Codename: Kids Next Door, a team of ten-year-olds protecting kids from mean adults, get schooled to the ‘art’ of avoiding spankings (4 letters kids: D C F S!)
Hilarity ensues when the team can’t stop ‘cracking up’ at the expense of their tutor.

This book is great fun for fans of the cartoon shows, or anyone just wanting to try out new characters.

First off, a confession-I haven’t watched The Wizard of Oz in years and don’t plan to. I lost interest in the film a long time ago and have decided that I will never watch it again. I did like the film for a while but at this point in life I just don’t care for it. That said; this first issue is great. Marvel is already adapting classic novels but Frank Baum’s book wasn’t one of the books on their list but it was on Young and Shanower’s. The duo suggested it to Marvel and Young dazzled them with his character designs so they relented and gave them the green light. In case anyone forgot the story involves a little girl named Dorothy (and her dog, Toto) who find themselves whisked to a world filled with witches, scarecrows that talk and Munchkins. Dorothy (well, her house) accidentally lands on someone very bad when she comes to be in this strange world but as the citizens of the village tell her that’s a good thing. Now since this isn’t where Dorothy needs to be she has to find her way home and that’s where the adventure comes in. The story is fun and cute but the art and coloring really make the issue. This is something that kids can read by themselves or you can read to yours as a bedtime story.
