At some point the WWE may not be the number one promotion in the UK. ITV is
taping a pilot for a revival of the UK promotion World of Sport and the network
is the number two network in the UK. Their revival of the promotion’s first
episode will have commentary by WWE Hall of Fame member Jim Ross. ITV’s
contracts for the ten episode show will not allow wrestlers to appear on any
other TV shows. The WWE is offering very unique contracts to get around that
deal. The contracts being offered wouldn’t have wrestlers work for NXT or the
main roster. It would allow the wrestlers to stay in the UK but WWE would
control their independent bookings. A possible UK based TV series could also
come out of these deals. WWE has been very aggressive lately in signing new
talent. There will be a WWE Performance Center tryout in early February and new
talent will report to the Performance Center on January 3rd. Some of the names
coming in are the female wrestlers Heidi Lovelace, Nixon Newell, Evie and Kimber
Lee. They would be part of a female tournament scheduled for the WWE network. |
