Fourth Film Possible with Recasting Probable |
Sony continues to work on a sequel to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. David
Fincher’s U.S. film adaptation of the property was well received but didn’t make
enough money to cover its $90 million budget. The current plan is to adapt the
fourth book in the series The Girl in the Spider’s Web and maybe recast all the
roles to make a cheaper version. Locke’s Steven Knight is adapting the novel and
Rooney Mara is still willing to play Lisbeth Salander. Daniel Craig isn’t likely
to return but his deal meant he was paid whether the film was made or not.
According to Knight even though the film would ignore the events of the second
and third novels it’s a sequel. All he did was outline the film with the plan of
it being developed if the studio liked what he did. The film will be directed by
Don’t Breathe’s Fede Alvarez. Spider’s Web tells of Salander re-teaming with
journalist Mikael Blomkvist to enter a world of a secret society willing to kill
to protect their secrets. If the film is a hit then the other two novels will be
adapted. |
