January 1st |
After
being with Marvel for almost 18 years Brian Michael Bendis signed a three year
exclusive contract with DC. From most reports he will begin working there at the
beginning of January. Marvel knew about the move and there are no hard feelings
between him and the company. The reasons why according to Bendis were he wanted
to try something new but there are rumors surrounding that decision. Bleeding
Cool has reported that the move had something to do with the Marvel Comics
Writers Summit that happened before NYCC 2017. None of the books he worked on
had a connection with Secret Empire. Sales of his books had gone down and he was
starting to turn in his scripts late. He wasn’t likely to get a raise and he had
written every Marvel character he was interested in except the Fantastic Four.
The move will get him involved with the films based on DC characters since his
connection with the Marvel films ended when Kevin Feige started reporting to
Disney and not Marvel. So he made the move and worked out his deal. Before he
goes he will be given the chance to wrap up all his storylines at Marvel while
setting up the directions his books will go to. Marvel has plans for Riri
Williams and a new female writer for Jessica Jones has already been picked.
Bendis will create an all new character for Marvel before he leaves their stage. |
