While talking to the Associated Press UFC President
Dana White brought up CM Punk's future and the possibility that Brock Lesnar
would fight in the UFC again. In his first and only match in September of 2016
Punk looked horrible against Mickey Gall. He had no offense and no ground game
but White told the AP, “I like that guy. He’s a good dude. He wants one more. He
wants to get another shot. I’m going to give it to him.” No date was mentioned
during the interview but rumors have Punk fighting Mike Jackson at UFC 225, the
first UFC PPV ever in Chicago on 6/9 at the United Center. Jackson’s only UFC
fight was a quick loss to the same Gall, who beat Punk so he isn’t exactly a
high level opponent. On the Lesnar matter White thinks he will return to the
Octagon but since Lesnar s under WWE contract until April it would have to
happen in the summer. If Brock signs a new WWE contract then he would have to
get WWE permission to fight. There is also the matter of Brock’s one-year
suspension handed down to him by the USADA after he failed a drug test after UFC
200. His suspension was frozen when he retired from MMA last year and if he was
reinstated then it would be unfrozen. So it’s likely that Lesnar will continue
to work for WWE. |
