Conor
McGregor and his entourage made a surprise appearance at UFC 223 media day and
ended up changing the card. He and his people arrived at the Barclays Arena in
Brooklyn, New York at the end of media day. As the fighters were leaving the
arena and getting into a van McGregor and team had words with several of the
fighters. Either McGregor or part of his entourage threw a chair through one of
the van's windows. Michael Chiesa was supposed to have fought Anthony Pettis but
was pulled from the fight due to cuts on his face from the glass that went into
the van. There is footage of McGregor throwing a bike rack backstage but it
isn’t clear if it happened before or after the van incident. Khabib Nurmagomedov
was in the van and he may have been McGregor’s target since he has been taking
shots at McGregor’s teammate Artem Lobov. Lobov was removed from his fight
against Alex Caceres due to his involvement in the incident. Ray Borg was
removed from the card since he got pieces of glass in his eye that began to give
him problems after what happened. After the incident McGregor was arrested and
is currently out on bail but can travel back to Ireland. UFC did issue a
statement condemning McGregor but hasn’t announced a suspension. |
