Co-Production Between DC Streaming and Netflix Got
Project Off the Ground |
After
multiple starts and stops Neil Gaiman’s Sandman will finally make it out of
development hell. Plans for a film version from New Line never really got out of
the planning stage and the comic will be adapted in the forum it should have
always been aimed for, TV. Netflix and Warner Bros Television have worked out a
deal to turn the comic into a live-action TV series for the streaming service.
The show will reportedly be the most expensive TV series that DC Entertainment
has ever done. Wonder Woman’s Allan Heinberg will write and be the show runner
for the series. The show will not run on HBO Max. Gaiman will serve as executive
producer alongside David Goyer, who was one of the many creators who tried to
make a film version. At one point Logan’s James Mangold tried to develop the
comic for HBO but failed. Supernatural creator Eric Kripke also tried to make a
TV but it never happened. The New Line film was being developed by Dark Knight
Rises’ Joseph Gordon-Levitt but he walked away after working on the project
three years ago.
