With Only a Few Months on the Job, the WWE has Cut Eric
Bishoff Loose |
Less than four months after he was announced for the position,
Eric Bischoff is being replaced as executive director of SmackDown. Bruce
Prichard has been named the new executive director of SmackDown and will report
directly to Vince McMahon. Prichard "will oversee the creative development of
Friday Night SmackDown on FOX and ensure integration across all platforms and
lines of business, replacing Eric Bischoff." Prichard returned to the WWE
creative team this February. In June Paul Heyman was named the executive
director of Raw and Bischoff was named the executive director of SmackDown.
Bischoff moved to Connecticut for the role at the beginning of July. He admitted
that he hadn’t been following the company so he started out in a catch up role.
One of the new writers he brought in was caught sleeping in the writers’ room
and the Roman Reigns angle with Rowan was botched from the start since the
original idea was to have Daniel Bryan behind the attacks. The move has Prichard
and brand head writer Ed Koskey will be the main people in charge of the show
going forward. Ironically Bischoff was brought in partially on the
recommendation of Prichard and the two had been working together on the show. In
other WWE news The Usos are in limbo following Jimmy's most recent arrest for a
DUI in late July. The Usos and Naomi were all taken off the road. Creative
doesn’t have an idea for them so they are just keeping busy until they are
assigned a brand.
