Cyborg Leaves for Bellator After Bad Blood With White
Poisoned the UFC Well |
Cris
Cyborg has signed with Bellator after the relationship between her and UFC
became totally broken. After UFC 240 she and UFC President Dana White were still
shaking hands when the former featherweight champion told the UFC president to
stop lying. She wanted White to stop saying she was ducking current champ Amanda
Nunes. Cyborg claims to have sent a text to White about a rematch immediately
after Nunes knocked her out but she wanted a new deal since her contract ended
after UFC 240. At the press conference after 240 White noticed Cyborg was seen
wearing a t-shirt with Cyborg vs. Nunes 2 on it and said he was willing to work
out a new deal. And then it all went downhill from there with a video that had
White state without question that the UFC would be releasing Cyborg as soon as
possible. Even though her contract had ended UFC had a window that allowed them
exclusive negotiating rights and after that an option to match any offers made
to a fighter. In the video White says, “She is free and clear to go to Bellator
or any of these other organizations and fight these easy fights that she wants.
Done. Done deal. I will literally today have my lawyer draft a letter to her
team that she is free and clear to go wherever she wants. We’re out of the
Cyborg business.” White found Cyborg to be impossible to deal with and commented
that he hated Tito Ortiz but even they were able to make a deal. The final straw
was a doctored backstage video she posted that makes it look like White said
things he didn’t. Her Bellator deal according to President Scott Coker is “the
largest of its kind in women’s MMA history.” Her first fight will be a title
shot against current featherweight champ Julia Budd. The plan is for Cyborg to
fight two or three times a year and her contract will allow her the opportunity
to box professionally.
