PAZIO'S AUGUST 2009
RELEASE...A Pathfinder RPG is
coming from Paizo Publishing and it will serve as the
cornerstone the company's Pathfinder adventures,
sourcebooks, and campaigns. The rules will be based on the
Dungeons and Dragon's 3.5 rules currently attainable through
Wizards of the Coast's Open Game License. With an August
2009 release date for the hardcover, alpha and beta testing
will happen over the course of this year. The first alpha
test version will be released in PDF form and based on 3.5
rules with comments from gamers being solicited and
incorporated into later releases. Various other Pathfinder
related PDF products will also be released in the coming
months. After further playtesting, a hardcover Pathfinder
RPG will be released in August of 2009. Until that time, all
Pathfinder products will be based on the current 3.5 rule
set, with future products (after August of 2009) based on
the updated Pathfinder system but backward compatible to 3.5
( this will be their irst attempt at an update of the 3.5
rule system.) Paizo also hopes to provide online fan-created
4.0 conversions for the game. Paizo will also support 4.0
through a complete line from partner company Necromancer
Games, which will produce a 4th Edition version of its Tome
of Horrors monster encyclopedia, plus other player and
gamemaster support products. Paizo has hired Nicolas Logue,
who co-founded the Living Greyhawk organized play campaign
during his tenure at Wizards of the Coast, to run its
organized play program for Pathfinder. Convention, in-store,
and home play events will be supported with online scenarios
available from Paizo. Paizo launched the Pathfinder brand in
the form of a monthly release last year after the
cancellations of Dragon and Dungeon magazines. |

LEGION
ON THE MARCH...Upper Deck will be
rolling out major promotional tour behind its World of
Warcraft TCG. The "March of the Legion" Tour events will be
hosted at a limited number of local hobby/comic stores
across the U.S. beginning in April. These events will

in competition for exclusive prizes. Legionnaires will be
drawn from Upper Deck's WoW TCG research and development and
organized play teams. Players who beat a Legionnaire will
win a Varimathras Extended Art card and a Leeroy Jenkins
t-shirt. All participants will receive a new Weeble Extended
Art card from the March of the Legion set. Five events will
be held in each of six different areas around the country
and stores will be chosen based on the strength of the
existing WoW TCG organized play base. Upper Deck plans
marketing and outreach programs to publicize the tour, and Legionnaires
will blog about each event as they take place. |

23
MILLION? A MERE BAG OF SHELLS...4Kids
released its fiscal 2007 end of year report last week and
the news was not exactly rosey. In the 4th quarter of 2007
they lost $16.8 million, vs. a $2.3 million loss in same
quarter of 2006. For the year, 4Kids' loss was $23.3
million vs. a loss of $1 million in 2006. Overall sales
dropped from $71.8 million in 2006 to $55.6 million in 2007.
4Kids reported that $7.8 million of its 2007 loss was
attributable to launch costs of the Chaotic TCG and Chaotic
Website. In spite of this the Chaotic launch is seen
as a positive for 2008 and beyond. The TCG is now in over
15,000 outlets, and reorders are being received from many of
these retailers. TV ratings for the Chaotic animated show
are also improving, with Chaotic being the top Saturday
morning show on broadcast TV for boys 6-11 in two of the
last three weeks. |

HAPPY MEAL WITH YOUR DEAD ALIEN…So
you’re playing Aliens Colonial Marines when suddenly the
Alien Queen bursts out of the Hardees’s restraint window to

possible video game experiences. Double Fusion has
