Mark Hunt has filed a civil lawsuit against the UFC, company
president Dana White, and Brock Lesnar. First reported by ESPN.com the suit was
filed in Nevada District Court, claiming the “UFC and its agents have
affirmatively circumvented and obstructed fair competition for their own
benefit, including being complicit in doping proliferation under the guise of
advancing ‘the best anti-doping program in all of professional sports.’
Defendants have accomplished this by means including but not limited to various
and rampant purported use exemptions, drug testing exemptions and by failure to
enforce its own policies.” Hunt is accusing the defendants of racketeering,
fraud, breech of contract, and unjust enrichment. He is looking for relief for
damages, legal fees, and such but the racketeering charge could triple the
damages. When Hunt fought Lesnar at UFC 200 Lesnar won the fight by unanimous
decision but was tagged for failing two drug tests. The fight was declared a no
contest and Lesnar paid a $250,000 fine and is currently under a one-year
suspension. Hunt is annoyed that Brock was paid $2.5 million for the fight and
got part of the PPV money so didn’t suffer enough. The problem with the suit is
that Lesnar didn’t have to take drug tests four months before the fight because
he got a waiver. So Hunt has no chance to win his case. And what he wants is for
Brock’s entire purse for the fight to be given to him which isn’t happening.
Hunt is scheduled to face Alistair Overeem at UFC 209 even though he is suing
UFC because if he turned down the fight he would be in breach of contract. |
