UFC veteran Jon “War Machine” Koppenhaver was convicted on 29
counts and may spend the rest of his life in prison. The former Bellator fighter
and UFC fighter had faced 32 charges, including kidnapping, sexual assault, and
attempted murder stemming from a fight between him, his former girlfriend
Christy Mack, and a friend of Mack’s, Corey Thomas at Mack’s Las Vegas home. He
was on the run for about a week before being arrested in California. He was
found guilty of kidnapping and sexual assault but the jury was deadlocked on the
murder charges. Before the trial he had claimed he was innocent on all counts
but did admit to domestic battery as the trial went on. His lawyer claimed that
War Machine (he legally changed his name to that) suffered brain injuries from
his mixed martial arts career and that drug use caused mood swings and violent
tendencies but the jury didn’t buy that. |
