It was reported last week that startup UK promotion 5 Star Wrestling reportedly offered
South Side Chicago boy and one time WWE Superstar/UFC Fighter CM Punk $1,000,000
to return to the wrestling ring for them. The story purported that Daniel Hinkle the owner of 5 Star
wanted Punk to join the first ever 128 Man Tournament: "We’ve been trying to
contact CM Punk on and off for well over a year. We wanted him on the first show
we did in Edinburgh in 2015. I've tried going through friends in the industry,
I’ve gone through his website and sent dozens of emails but the opportunity has
never been this big. We want to offer CM Punk $1 million dollars (£770,000) to
come and join the 5 Star Wrestling tour starting June 10th. It’s a genuine
offer. We’d love to hear back from the man himself. We want to do this with
him.” If Punk accepted the offer it would have made him one of the highest paid wrestlers in
sports entertainment earning him $143,000 a match if he wrestles through all 7
potential matches of the tourney. The problem with the story is it's apparently
fake. When contacted Punk claims never got any emails and has no idea what this
guy is talking about. Regarding the supposed post from Dan Hinkles of Five Star
Wrestling claiming C.M. Punk would be in the tournament and at the Liverpool
show, a rep from the promotion told us: "This tweet came from a fake account
that has no affiliation with Dan Hinkles or anyone affiliated to 5 Star
Wrestling." So remember kids, fake news is around everywhere. |
