We have seen a major chasm develop between flyweight champion
Demetrious Johnson and the UFC. UFC president Dana White was
trying to put together a fight between flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and
top bantamweight contender TJ Dillashaw. Dillashaw was going to challenge
bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt for his title but Garbrandt’s back issues
made that fight impossible. So Dillashaw told White he wanted to fight Johnson
but Johnson said he wanted to fight Ray Borg instead. Knowing there was no money
in that fight White responded, “Unfortunately for DJ, you don’t make the fights
around here. I do.” Johnson then went on a rant claiming he has been bullied and
mistreated. He wanted to fight Sergio Pettis but was told that wasn’t happening.
Johnson reluctantly agreed but wanted PPV points for the fight which wasn’t
happening since smaller fighters don’t draw, which is true. Johnson is a great
fighter but he’s boring as hell and isn’t going to push me or anyone else to buy
a PPV with him at the top of the card. Johnson went on to complain that UFC
doesn’t promote him well likely because he’s boring. Nice guy, great fighter but
can’t cut a promo to save his life. |
