HOWARD REPLACES LORD/MILLER ON HAN SOLO

Even though there were only weeks left of shooting directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were canned from the young Han Solo Star Wars spin-off film. The two have been replaced by Ron Howard. EW revealed that there were tensions between the directors, writer Lawrence Kasdan and producer Kathleen Kennedy. Lord and Miller were shooting a comedy instead of a space fantasy. They were brought in to add a comedic touch but had gone too far. The duo encouraged improvisation from the actors which ignored the script to the point it wasn’t telling the story Kasdan wrote. Alden Ehrenrich was openly complaining that they ignoring who Han Solo was and that more or less sealed their fate. When pushed to follow the script the two dug in and it had gone too far to let them finish the project. Howard will be given a few weeks to get up to speed. His involvement will be weird because the rules of the Director’s Guild of America allow for Lord & Miller to edit the finished film even if that never comes out. So Disney could let them edit the film, shelve the edit then let Howard cut the film the way he wanted to. The DGA will determine the final credit for that film.
