LOVING THE ALIEN Posted: 101117
Alien: Covenant has proven to be as divisive as Prometheus. Some love the film and some hate it. The franchise is going to continue however and Gladiator’s John Logan has turned in a 10-page outline that could include a digitally de-aged Sigourney Weaver. There will be different mutations of the Alien also if the film ever happens. Ridley Scott has waffled over how many more Alien films there will be. He once said that Prometheus and Covenant would serve as the first two entries in a trilogy of films leading directly into the original film. Then he said we could see another trilogy of films that would also take place in between the time of Covenant and Alien. Now he says he will do at least two more films or possibly three. Writer/producer Damon Lindelof says the next film could take us to the planet where the Engineers came from. One film we aren’t going to see is Neill Blomkamp’s direct sequel to James Cameron’s Aliens. His original plan was to introduce a new character in the leading role instead of Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley but he changed his mind after talking to her. So on his own he came up with a film that would have given Ripley and Hicks a proper send off. He wrote the script and had a concept artist come up with a look and took the idea to 20th Century Fox. Everything was fine until they brought in Scott as a producer then it all fell apart. The plan to make Covenant instead killed it.
