Charlotte
McDuffie, the widow of the late comic creator Dwayne McDuffie, has filed a
lawsuit against the revived Milestone Media for not including his estate in the
new venture. According to Variety at the time of his death in 2011 McDuffie
owned 50% of Milestone Media and Derek Dingle owned the other half. The suit
claims that instead of buying out his shares of the company, Dingle, Reginald
Hudlin and Denys Cowan created Milestone Media Company LLC. The new company was
named Milestone 2.0 and was going to use all the characters from the original
venture. The idea for a relaunch came up at McDuffie’s wake. Charlotte McDuffie
is claiming that she has been getting no answers about Milestone 2.0 which is
planning new titles with DC and other publishers without paying her and her
family or with their consent. There was a deal ready to settle this issue back
in April but that deal isn’t going to happen since she filed the lawsuit.
Milestone’s partners have denied the suit’s allegations. The DC revival was
announced two years ago but nothing has happened yet. |
